Valentine's Day Candy

It may only be January, but if there is a new love in your life, or a love you have had for most of your life, the gift of candy is a time old tradition. Sure depending on your financial status diamonds, flowers, lingerie, vacations, or even Louboutins all stand a chance as the chosen gift. But candy- yes candy on Valentine's Day is a MUST even if you only give a simple card.
Why is candy given on Valentine's Day?
Well, I am sure some horny male discovered chocolate was an aphrodisiac, and during the dark winter months after Christmas and before Easter, what a great idea to have a romantic holiday!
Now while two Roman Saints are both named "Valentine", the romance didn't start until the writing of Chaucer in the late 1300s- told ya! Horny male!
By the mid 1800s, Valentine's Day became a celebrated holiday with maids being courted with roses and poetry. Now enter Richard Cadbury who had been working feverishly on edible chocolate! Once he mastered making drinking chocolate, his surplus of cocobutter gave him the materials to create pieces of "eating chocolate".  He sold them in decorated boxes he personally designed and it took off like wildfire.
So there you have it- saints, sex, sweets, and sales! Valentine's Day <3
Visit our online candy store www.southwestcandy.com for your Valentine's Day candy gifts. Not just chocolate, but get creative with your sentiments. One of my favorites is pink and white gumballs with silver Hershey Kisses and the message "Blow me a kiss!".
