Are You Ready for Some FOOTBALL??

That weekend is almost here- the one that usually breaks everyone's diet with bar food and beer! SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!
So if you are hosting one of these extravaganzas, don't forget to add the sweets to complement your savory. And if you are attending an extravaganza, don't forget your host needs a candy dish with football chocolates as a token of appreciation!
The Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos will give a good show no doubt. The top ranked Panthers definitely play some hard ball. Scoring two points when already in the lead just to rub the Cardinals' nose in it? Hmm.... that will get you nowhere b/c karma is a butt kicker!

So enjoy some football chocolates, or maybe create a unique arrangment of lollipops to display for them in a pot? Laffy Taffy in a bowl to keep the party's humor rolling.... so many options with candy. But whether you are hosting or attending- candy should be part of your game plan.

May the best team win! www.southwestcandy.com is your candy one stop shop!

Tax Season Candy

January 19th marks the beginning of tax season. Closing your books and saying a prayer you will either get a hefty check in the mail, or not have to pay the piper too much, is on everyone's mind. The brain is a funny organ- what causes stress and anger one minute, can be overcome by the sensation of pure joy! How does this happen? Sunlight, sex, or chocolate all have the same power to help your brain power through stressful or unpleasant moments. Southwest Candy does not sell sex or sunlight, so we will just talk about chocolate!

Kiss, bar, stick, square, or lump- no matter. Chocolate elicits the feeling of happiness. Why do you think this is a "go-to" staple during the hardest of break-ups? As I stated in my previous post, it is also an aphrodisiac, which is why it is SO popular on Valentine's Day.
Chocolate stimulates the release of endorphins by the brain which induce a state of pleasure and joy. So in times of stress- tax season- having chocolate out on your desk for your clients is always a good idea.

There are many types of chocolate to choose from: milky chocolate such as the "Kiss" featured here, chewy chocolate such as the Tootsie Roll, hard chocolate such as a Tootsie Pop, chocolate coins, minty chocolate such as Andes Creme de Menthe, candy-coated chocolate such as M&Ms or Sixlets, and when you just cannot decide because you love them all, assorted bags of Nestle, Mars, or Hershey Miniatures are just clicks away! Valentine's Day Candy

It may only be January, but if there is a new love in your life, or a love you have had for most of your life, the gift of candy is a time old tradition. Sure depending on your financial status diamonds, flowers, lingerie, vacations, or even Louboutins all stand a chance as the chosen gift. But candy- yes candy on Valentine's Day is a MUST even if you only give a simple card.
Why is candy given on Valentine's Day?
Well, I am sure some horny male discovered chocolate was an aphrodisiac, and during the dark winter months after Christmas and before Easter, what a great idea to have a romantic holiday!
Now while two Roman Saints are both named "Valentine", the romance didn't start until the writing of Chaucer in the late 1300s- told ya! Horny male!
By the mid 1800s, Valentine's Day became a celebrated holiday with maids being courted with roses and poetry. Now enter Richard Cadbury who had been working feverishly on edible chocolate! Once he mastered making drinking chocolate, his surplus of cocobutter gave him the materials to create pieces of "eating chocolate".  He sold them in decorated boxes he personally designed and it took off like wildfire.
So there you have it- saints, sex, sweets, and sales! Valentine's Day <3
Visit our online candy store www.southwestcandy.com for your Valentine's Day candy gifts. Not just chocolate, but get creative with your sentiments. One of my favorites is pink and white gumballs with silver Hershey Kisses and the message "Blow me a kiss!".
